Central Heating and Radiators
Radiator Installation, Replacement & Repairs
A well-functioning central heating system is one of those things you only really notice when something goes wrong. Whether it's a radiator that's gone cold, a boiler that's stopped working, or a system that's simply not performing as efficiently as it should, I provide a comprehensive range of central heating and radiator services across Hertfordshire and outer North London. Gas and boiler work is carried out and certified by a trusted Gas Safe registered engineer I work alongside, to the required legal standard.
Boiler Installations, Servicing & Repairs
Your boiler is the heart of your home's heating and hot water system. When it's working properly, you barely notice it's there. When it isn't, it can bring everything to a standstill. Whether you're looking to replace an ageing or inefficient boiler with a modern, high-efficiency unit, need an annual service to keep your system running safely and within warranty, or require a repair following a breakdown or fault, I can help arrange it. Common boiler faults include loss of pressure, ignition failure, unusual noises, and inconsistent heating or hot water. All boiler installations, servicing and repairs are carried out and certified by a trusted Gas Safe registered engineer I work alongside, to the required legal standard.
Gas Work
Boiler installations, servicing, repairs and all other gas work are carried out and certified by a trusted Gas Safe registered engineer I work alongside. I am not Gas Safe registered and do not carry out gas work myself. Where a job involves both, I take care of the heating side, such as radiators, pipework and controls, while all gas work is completed by the engineer, so the whole system is handled properly from start to finish.
Magnetic Filter Installation & Service
A magnetic filter, such as a Magnaclean or equivalent, is one of the most effective ways to protect your central heating system from the damage caused by magnetite sludge, a black iron oxide deposit that builds up over time and can block pipework, reduce radiator performance, and put unnecessary strain on your boiler and pump. Most boiler manufacturers now require a magnetic filter to be fitted as a condition of their warranty. I install magnetic filters to new and existing systems, and carry out annual servicing of existing filters to ensure they continue to protect your system effectively.
Radiator Replacement
Radiators don't last forever, corrosion, persistent cold spots, visible damage, or simply an outdated design are all valid reasons to replace an existing radiator. I remove old radiators and install new ones in their place, matching the correct heat output (BTU) to the room size and ensuring compatibility with your existing heating system. Whether you're replacing a single radiator or updating several throughout the home, I'll make sure each one is fitted and balanced correctly.
Radiator Repairs
A radiator that isn't working properly can significantly affect the comfort of a room and the efficiency of your entire heating system. Common radiator problems include cold spots at the top or bottom of the panel (often caused by trapped air or sludge build-up), leaking valves or connections, a radiator that stays cold even when the heating is on, or one that makes knocking or gurgling noises during operation. I diagnose and repair radiator faults accurately, identifying the root cause rather than applying a temporary fix.
TRV Replacements
Thermostatic radiator valves — TRVs — allow you to control the temperature of individual rooms independently, rather than heating the whole house to the same level. Over time, TRVs can seize up, stick in the open or closed position, or simply become inaccurate, making it impossible to regulate room temperature properly. I replace faulty TRVs with new standard or smart valves, if you'd like to upgrade to a smart TRV system (such as Tado or Drayton Wiser) for greater control and energy efficiency, I can install these to your specification.
